Sambal Petai & Eggplants- Whole Earth Peranakan Thai Restaurant


We decided to have a good family dinner at Whole Earth Peranakan Thai Vegetarian Restaurant this evening and we were one of the first guests to arrive. This restaurant has won so many awards for being top 20 restaurants in Singapore in year 2008 and 2009. They are famously known for their healthy cooking as well. This restaurant has been reviewed so many times by fellow vegetarians and vegans in Singapore and it’s our turn to visit although I did popped by a year ago.


We opted for this crispy seaweed bean curd skin snack $2 to start our meal.


First to arrive was Nyonya Curry with potatoes and shiitake mushrooms bites $19 and this dish took 8 hours of preparation and slow cooking to achieve the rich, creamy curry texture. Although it does not look appetizing the aroma of the curry reached us before we saw it plated. We were literally drinking from this bowl and it was quite spicy after a few mouthfuls.


We ordered Sambal battered oyster mushroom $17 and it was one of my favourite dishes as the batter was really crispy, yummy with a slightly sweet flavour. It was fried to perfection and the secret home made sambal sauce added an interesting taste to this simple tempura dish.


Last to arrive was Sambal petai with eggplants $14. The eggplants were so tender and the petai bites were crunchy and soaked with the tangy spicy sauce. Another winning dish and we had 2 bowl of rice at $1.50 each. Overall a very satisfying meal and a very spicy one. We’ll definitely want to come back for their 5 spices Ngor hiang roll, Penang Rendang, Yam treasure ring and Steamed jade wrap.
