Best Aglio Olio- Modesto’s at Orchard Parade Hotel

Was back at our favourite pasta place since we first discovered Modesto’s a couple of years back after a comedy night at TAB. We did not realize they have a vegetarian menu until today but we always return for their aglio olio. We tried so many aglio olio around town and they either taste too bland or have very dry texture. So to us they have the best one in town!

They have 3 outlets and we often frequent the one at Vivocity. They offer set lunches and dinners from Sunday to Thursday too.

To start they always served a complimentary focaccia bread basket with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread is always so soft and goes so well with the dressing. Wished it came slightly warm though. They are hubby Ro’s favourite part of the meal!

We had Insalata Mista, assorted fresh greens, julienne of carrots, capsicum, black kalamata olives (our favourite) and fresh tomatoes, served with balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil $13. The portions here are always so huge and among two of us and a friend it was more than enough greens to pass around.

And we tried Zucchine Dorate Con Salsa Di Pepperoni, slices of lightly breaded zucchini, deep fried to a golden brown and served with spicy capsicum sauce $17. OMG! We were blown away. This dish was executed so well. It did not taste like a boring vegetable dish at all. The bread crumbs were fried to perfection and the zucchini added an extra crunch in them. Topped with a really unique sauce, this dish was such a star!

Our friend who was not really hungry actually ate more than 3 of them. It was so good, we definitely want to try re-making this at home.

I had my favourite Spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncino, spaghetti with slices of fresh chilli, garlic and extra virgin olive oil $18. I usually hate garlic but the garlic bites were so tasty and crunchy I actually finished them all. Of course, I hate the after breath part but OMG if pasta with garlic can taste so good I will eat all the garlic in the world.

While Hubby Ro tried something new today and had Ravioli ai funghi con crema di zafferano e noci, home made pasta filled with minced porcini, button and shiitake mushroom in saffron walnut sauce $26. He thought it tasted really good but very creamy. We doubt it was vegan actually. But overall he felt the texture could be crunchier with maybe chestnuts? But this dish was so filling towards the end and had so many walnuts sprinkles.

Overall, we had such an amazing food feast every time we are at Modesto’s but the prices are really expensive. They actually have a non cheese pizza too. What a treat for a lovely long holiday weekend break. Happy Good Friday everyone:)
