As we were around the area fixing my parent’s laptop at Sim Lim Square, we decided to walk over to Veggie Cottage last Friday for dinner. It was my parent’s first visit to the cafe and although they liked the ambience, they wished the food could come slightly faster despite the really affordable food. My mum’s favourite was pumpkin soup $4.50. It was not the thick creamy ones sold outside but it tasted like the cedele version but even better. It tasted very fresh and the toasted bread was a lovely touch.
We ordered wanton soup to share $4.50 but was quite disappointed it did not taste as good as the mongolian dumplings we had the last time round.
We also ordered sambal fish rice $5.50 which we thought came in a really small portion. The chilli on the other hand was spicy good.
The next two dishes were as tasty as we remembered and came in good portions. We highly recommend the salad medley, the sauce is awesome and the burger with the crispy addictive fries!!!
Finally, we got a chance to taste the fish and chips $6.50 and although the fish portion was pretty tiny (2 pieces), it was quite filling towards the end after all the food sharing. The tartar sauce was really creamy and went perfectly with the fish slices. I have no idea what it was made of but it tasted really soft with a crunchy outer texture. This will be an item I will re-order again. Sadly we did not get a chance to taste the aglio olio as it has sold out!
