For my birthday, my girlfriends treated me to Joie, one of the latest vegetarian restaurant that opened in Singapore. Despite a really elaborate setting, table display and 6 course menu choice, Joie is more suited for vegetarians rather than for vegans. If you are interested to see what vegetarian dishes my friends ate, check out our instagram page @mrandmrsvegan. With only 1 choice for each category, I was reluctant to ask Mr Vegan to join me at Joie. Soon we learned that Chicks Eat Vegan will be organizing their latest food meet up at Joie and we jumped at the chance of going, knowing all the dishes served will be vegan! Yeah:) We started with iced fruity refresher made of assorted fresh fruits.
Next, we had Chef’s selection of assorted platter with a charcoal sponge cake that was made vegan just for this event!
Starter: Agedashi Tofu with Soba Noodles and Kakiage Vegetables
Soup: Infusion of crepes and truffles, crepes mushrooms with white inter truffle oil and black truffles
Soup: Clear tomato broth with garbanzo, tomato and chickpea with orzo pasta and spinach dumpling
Main: Sauteed wild rice with baby radish, baby carrot and haricot vert
Main: Baby Garden Root Vegetables with golden baby beetroot with baby carrot
Main: Hedgehog summer mushroom, braised and pan-fried monkey mushroom with oriental spices, celeriac puree, pomegranate molasses and truffle foam
Dessert: Fresh tropical fruits with cranberry jello with mango and yoghurt pearls
Our favourite was the Apple Mallow Melody tea and at the price of $38++ per person this meal was definitely valued for money but we wished they could come up with more permanent vegan food dishes. Joie will still be the place we will visit if we are hoping to grab a meal in the convenience of Orchard Road.
